Becoming a family is amazing but it can also be harder than you expect. Pregnancy and life with a new baby can be difficult for you as an individual or as a couple and can put unwelcome stress on any of your relationships; you are certainly not alone in this. Couples can experience a shift in loyalties, and you may have different assumptions and expectations about parenting (particularly where different cultural backgrounds are in play). It can help to have an independent and non-judgemental person to listen and help sort things out. It is also useful for a couple to consider what kind of life they wish for their newborn, and how that affects their own lives and hopes.
